Obesity has become a global epidemic and is largely attributed to the wrong lifestyle. The lifestyle factors leading to obesity include a sedentary lifestyle, improper food habits, psychological stress and addictions. From the yoga point of view, the underlying cause for all these is an uncontrolled thought process (stress). Traditional yogic wisdom understands lifestyle disorders as Adhija Vyadhi (stress born diseases). Thus, the management of such diseases should be through the adaption of a multipronged approach. Yogic management of obesity includes working at different levels of human existence understood through the Panchakosha model. Practices at each of the levels is discussed in this lecture.
