Obesity has become a global epidemic and is largely attributed to the wrong lifestyle. The lifestyle factors leading to obesity include a sedentary lifestyle, improper food habits, psychological stress and addictions. From the yoga point of view, the underlying cause for all these is an uncontrolled thought process (stress). Traditional yogic wisdom understands lifestyle disorders as Adhija Vyadhi (stress born diseases). Thus, the management of such diseases should be through the adaption of a multipronged approach. Yogic management of obesity includes working at different levels of human existence understood through the Panchakosha model. Practices at each of the levels would be discussed during the talk. The talk would also include the current evidence on Yoga therapy management for Obesity.
The webinar will cover the following topics:
where does excess weight come from and how to stop this process;
which yoga practices will be helpful in preventing obesity;
how to choose an individual program of yoga therapy and what one should pay special attention to.
