Ama is generally equated to endotoxin. But Ama is a peculiar concept in Ayurveda, which is considered to be one of the important aspects of development of diseases process in the body. Ama is a sludge that gums up the works on both the cellular and systems level. In modern parameters, Ama is supposed to be deadly free radical. Ama is not a single entity but is a generalized term, which can be applied to many malformed substances in the body. Ama has tremendous capacity to vitiate the doshas and disturbing the homeostasis. Majority of endogenous diseases begins with the formation of Ama.
